Guidelines:

Participation:

Due to the essential role that class activities play in the assessment of your competencies, full participation within each and every class is a crucial element of satisfactory academic progress. Without sufficient participation in class, your trainer/assessor will not be able to assess you in the numerous occasions and in the multiple ways required to deem you as competent.

Delivery:

Assessment will be centred on class activities and is competency based. Competency Based Assessment requires you to demonstrate particular skills, or groups of skills, on numerous occasions and in multiple ways. Each class will have its own unique assessment tasks which must be completed within the scheduled class time to demonstrate your competence.

These tasks will be delivered through the following methods:

Methods:

Practical Demonstrations, including the preparation of particular dishes to specific criteria, serving customers and any other relevant practical requirements as per the hospitality training package. Practical assessment will be undertaken in ACOT's fully operational training facilities and within the busy operational commercial environment of the fully embedded Thornbury Theatre which is one of the leading entertainment and function venues in Victoria.

•  Assignments, prepared in a variety of media such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.

•  Research Tasks such as market surveys and web based research.

•  In Class Activities such as role plays and guided discussions.

•  Class Presentations.

•  Field trips and Excursions.

Grading:

Assessments will be evaluated on specific criteria and deemed as either 'S' Satisfactory or 'NS' Not Satisfactory. Each completed Unit of Competency will be graded as either 'C' Competent or 'NYC' Not Yet Competent.

Re-assessment of Unsatisfactorily Completed Units

Where a student fails to successfully complete a unit of competency there is a possibility of undertaking ‘catch up’ classes and assessment. These classes are generally conducted on a Saturday morning and incur an additional cost of A$200 per unit. If a student is required to take extra units to complete a course of study at the end of their scheduled program, and the remaining units do not constitute a full-time load, the student may complete the units with a less than full-time load. This applies to students who are required to repeat units of study; however, ACOT will not allow students to repeat any unit more than once.

Awards

On successful completion of a course of study, students must fill out an Application for Award form and/or a Statement of Attainment request to receive their certificate.

The application forms are available from administration at reception. Student needs to ensure that all details are filled correctly. Administration will acknowledge receipt of the application form and a copy will be given to students.

Before issuing any certificate, Administration will check to ensure that students have no outstanding financial liabilities to the College. The status of the course /unit completion will be checked by administration, verified by the Director of Studies and authorized by the institute CEO. The award and/or statement of attainment will be printed and signed by the CEO.

The award and/or statement of attainment will then be dispatched as per the preferred mode selected on the application.
