Assessments
guidelines
- conduct during examinations - academic
honesty - results - reassessments
- awards - printable
forms
Guidelines:
Participation:
Due to the essential role that class activities play in the assessment
of your competencies, full participation within each and every class
is a crucial element of satisfactory academic progress. Without
sufficient participation in class, your trainer/assessor will not
be able to assess you in the numerous occasions and in the multiple
ways required to deem you as competent.
Delivery:
Assessment will be centred on class activities and is competency
based. Competency Based Assessment requires you to demonstrate particular
skills, or groups of skills, on numerous occasions and in multiple
ways. Each class will have its own unique assessment tasks which
must be completed within the scheduled class time to demonstrate
your competence.
These tasks will be delivered through the following methods:
Methods:
- Practical Demonstrations, including the preparation of particular dishes to specific criteria, serving customers and any other relevant practical requirements as per the hospitality training package. Practical assessment will be undertaken in ACOT's fully operational training facilities and within the busy operational commercial environment of the fully embedded Thornbury Theatre which is one of the leading entertainment and function venues in Victoria.
- Assignments, prepared in a variety of media such as MS Word,
MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
- Research Tasks such as market surveys and web based research.
- In Class Activities such as role plays and guided discussions.
- Class Presentations.
- Field trips and Excursions.
Grading:
Assessments will be evaluated on specific criteria and deemed as either 'S' Satisfactory or 'NS' Not Satisfactory. Each completed Unit of Competency will be graded as either 'C' Competent or 'NYC' Not Yet Competent. Top
Conduct during examinations
Students:
- A student found guilty of breaching any of the following rules
of conduct, during knowledge tests/ examinations, in a way that
may compromise, or defeat, the purposes of the assessment, may
be found guilty of Academic Dishonesty, and subject to penalties,
ranging from mark reduction, zero marks, or failure in the unit
for that study period, to exclusion or expulsion from the College.
- Student identification - students must bring into the
examination room and keep displayed their current Student Identification
Card.
- Students are to comply with directions - a student will comply with all directions given by the trainer/assessor/examiner / examination supervisor and all instructions to candidates set out on the examination materials, or displayed in the examination room.
- A student’s behaviour must not disturb, distract, or adversely
affect, any other student.
- Entering and leaving an examination room. Students who are given
permission to enter, or leave, an examination room, will comply
with any conditions relating to the giving of the permission.
Students will not be given permission to leave an examination
room until half the prescribed working time has elapsed, or during
the last 15 minutes of the prescribed working time, unless there
are exceptional circumstances.
- Any student that arrives late, but before half the prescribed
working time for the examination has elapsed, will normally be
permitted to take the examination, but, no additional working
time will be allowed, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
- Unauthorised material shall not be brought into the examination
room.
- Students may bring into an examination room only those materials
approved for the unit under examination, and indicated as such
on the knowledge test/examination paper.
- All other materials are expressly prohibited unless they are
brought into the knowledge test/examination room with the permission
of the examination supervisor, and deposited by the student directly
upon entering the examination room, at a place stipulated by the
aforementioned examination supervisor. It is inconsequential,
for this rule, that the unauthorized material is not related to
the unit being tested/examined.
- Students are not to remove any papers.
- A student shall not remove, from the examination room, any worked
scripts, or other paper provided for use during the course of
the knowledge test/examination (other than the question papers
supplied, where this is authorized by the knowledge test/examination
supervisor) or other material, which is the property of the College.
- Students shall not communicate with others during a knowledge
test/examination, except the knowledge
test/examination,
except
the trainer/assessor/examiner / examination supervisor Top
Examiner's obligations and responsibilities:
- In most, if not all cases, the examiner will be the trainer/assessor
of the cohort of students being assessed under test/examination
conditions.
- An examiner must either address announcements concerning clarification
of, or amendment to, an examination paper, to the entire group
of students, or write them on a blackboard/whiteboard.
- An examiner should specify on the test/examination paper whether
students may use any type of portable calculator, or non-programmable
calculators only.
- Checking text books and any other materials permitted for use
by examinees. Where restrictions apply to the documents and materials,
which students are permitted to use in an examination, it is essential
that a lecturer, experienced in the unit under examination, be
present in the examination area. The trainer/assessor will assist
the examination supervisor to
- Check students’ documents and make determinations on the
legitimacy, or otherwise, of notes contained therein. Top
Academic Honesty - College
Policy
- A student shall not engage in any activity that involves attempting
to receive a grade by means other than honest effort, for example:
- A student shall not, knowingly, procure, provide, or accept,
any materials that contain questions, or answers, to any test
or examination, or assignment, to be given at a subsequent time.
- A student shall not complete, in part, or in total, any test
or examination, or assignment for another person.
- A student shall not, knowingly, allow any examination, or assignment,
to be completed, in part, or in total, for himself, or herself,
by another person.
- A student shall not plagiarise, or copy, the work of another
person and submit it as his or her, own work.
- A student shall not employ unauthorized aids when undertaking
course work.
- A student shall not, without proper authorization, alter graded
class assignments, or examinations, and then re-submit them for
re-grading.
- A student shall not provide their assignments, in part, or in
total, to any other student in current or future classes of the
course. A student shall not procure, or accept, assignments from
current, or prior, classes of the course.
- Collaborating with other students to develop, complete, or correct,
course work, is limited to activities explicitly authorized by
the class instructor. Use of other students’ course work,
in part, or in total, to develop, complete, or correct, course
work is unauthorized.
- Each student is responsible for knowing and abiding by the College’s
policies on academic and student conduct. Any student found to
be in breach of the College’s Academic Honesty, or Student
Conduct policies will be given a grade of “NYC” in
the course, and will be reported to Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP). Committing acts that
violate the Student Conduct Policies, which result in course disruption,
are liable for suspension, or dismissal, from the College. Top
Submission of results
- Results must be authorised by each trainer, and should be submitted
progressively to the Director of Studies. Results must be received
within ten working days.
- Recommended grades and/or marks (%) should be submitted on
the pro-forma provided by the Director of Studies.
Release of results
- Under normal circumstances, results will be released within
twenty working days of the published study period end date. Results
will be mailed to the students’ home address, or can be
collected in person from the College. Photo identification will
be required on collection. If the academic record is to be requested,
or collected, by a person other than the student, a power of attorney,
or letter of authorization, is required, as is photo identification.
- Where a student fails to meet a debt, or obligation, to the
College, the student’s academic results will be withheld
for completed units that have not been paid for. Top
Re-assessment
of Unsatisfactorily Completed Units
Where a student fails to successfully complete a unit of competency
there is a possibility of undertaking ‘catch up’ classes
and assessment. These classes are generally conducted on a Saturday
morning and incur an additional cost of A$200 per unit. If a student
is required to take extra units to complete a course of study at
the end of their scheduled program, and the remaining units do not
constitute a full-time load, the student may complete the units
with a less than full-time load. This applies to students who are
required to repeat units of study; however, ACOT will not allow
students to repeat any unit more than once.
Awards
On successful completion of a course of study, students must fill
out an Application for Award form and/or a Statement of Attainment
request to receive their certificate.
The application forms are available from administration at reception.
Student needs to ensure that all details are filled correctly. Administration
will acknowledge receipt of the application form and a copy will
be given to students.
Before issuing any certificate, Administration will check to ensure
that students have no outstanding financial liabilities to the College.
The status of the course /unit completion will be checked by administration,
verified by the Director of Studies and authorized by the institute
CEO. The award and/or statement of attainment will be printed and
signed by the CEO.
The award and/or statement of attainment will then be dispatched
as per the preferred mode selected on the application.
